Default Clutch clearances

Is it safe to have a .030 clearance for the 3-4 clutch pac???

Performabuilt, FLT what do you consider acceptable. ATSG recommends not less than .060

thats fine particularly dry since it will increase a little after they apply a few times we consider .020 min dry never applied but no more than .060 since after apply they will be higher

I soaked all clutches before assembly. When I checked clearance I pushed on the clutches and slid a feeler gauge in and came up with .030

Keep in mind that the atsg book is for stock units. High performance is a little different. (IMO) I believe trans go had in their directions that the 3-4 should be setup between .015-.030. That's what I shoot for. I have also noticed that after the clutch pack sees a few good heat cycles it will loosen up a bit. Keep that in mind when setting it up. Also some clutch packs need to be setup at different spec's depending on the clutch material. Some materials do not like being run tight and others do not like being loose. Vince

I'm running all ALTO Red Eagle clutches w/ the 9 clutch pac for 3-4 with Kolene Steels.
