not to stray off topic but there is a reason for everything, we argue on efa because we are banned for posting the truth about certain poeple and shops then all the nutswingers take offense and it turnbs into a giant argument you should come by and talk to us next time your up capitol

that's because people throw heads and a cam on their car, up the shift points 1,000 rpms, throw down 120 horsepower to the wheels stock and say "duh, why ddi my transmission break?" 4L60E's in stock cars go over 120,000 miles quite frequently, and bolt-on cars (headers, full exhaust, intake) commonly go over 100,000 miles - even stalled, assuming it's cooled. they go over 150,000 miles quite regularly in LSx powered cars - which is incredible for any stock trans. in V6 f-bodies, they see over 200,000 miles regularly.

the 4L60E is a very good automatic. it's by leaps and bounds better than any automatic ford has put in their cars in the past 25 years. it just gets a bad wrap because:

1.) you're on LS1tech where people up their horsepower 100 over stock and don't do anything to help their driveline. why did my stock tranny, stock driveshaft and stock rear break? hmm, i don't know. i wonder why?

2.) they're tricky to built. a lot of builders don't know how to build them. you can't just put better parts in and expect it to be invincible. you need to fix lubrication problems, change springs, upgrade the pump, etc. buy it from a proven builder and they can do very well.

3.) it's a medium duty transmission. it was never designed to run 9's. it CAN do it, but you SHOULD freshen it up every season.

the 4L60E isn't the world's toughest transmission. it was never designed to be. however, it's still stronger and more capable than 9 out of 10 automatics out there. honda can't make an automatic that can hold 300 flywheel horsepower. look at the NSX, detuned because the automatics can't hold their big, bad V6.

Holy crap Steve, You've been a nice guy in person everytime I've seen you and lined up against you (granted this was a while ago), so I'm surprised to see all this trash. This thread is done.
