Is it possible to customize the gears in an auto tranny
ok, excuse me I have no knowledge of tranys.
I've noticed that there are cars with 5speed auto tranys and even 6speed.
My ideal tranny would be a 5 speed with 5th as overdrive, or even an A4 with 4th gear ratio 1:1 rather then having an overdrive would be better and tighter gears.
Sorry for my ignorance.
Is it possible to customize gears in a tranny with 4 normal drive gears (4th being 1:1 gear)?
thanks in advance

It also has to be able to handle lots of hp as well. <img border="0" alt="[devil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" />

Adding a gear is probably impossible. Changing gear ratios can be done sometimes. Certain trannies have a number of possible swaps that can be done, although it is pricey.
I'd love a 5 speed automatic. I'd leave things alone (maybe make 1st gear 2.75 to close up the ratios) and make 5th gear ratio = .5 (like the M6) and run 4.10s. Perfect drag gears for me and a better overdrive than a stock A4 with 3.23s. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />

This is what I want, it's good for mexican highway racing.
max rpm: 6800 or up to 7200 on a built turbo motor.
ratios:
1. 2.6 :
2. 1.9 :
3. 1.4 :
4. 1 :
5. 0.65 :
rear end: 3.23
but if I have to remove the 5th gear, I'd keep 1-4 the same and use a 3.23 or 2.73 rear axle ratio.

You would need a custom planetary gear set to change the lower ratio's. Not easy to change ratio's in a-4's. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />
The GV unit would hold a lot of appeal if it was a .5 unit. As a .7 it gives the same overdrive as now. Obviously a big improvement over the 3 speed, but not worth the switch (to me) unless you have too much power for a 4L60e.

Have ever seen how big a thm-400 is with an overdrive mounted on back of it? Good luck mounting that under anything but a pick-up. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[jester]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_jest.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" />
