lock up question

Default lock up question
I have a 3500 TCI torque converter and just recently it hasn't been locking when in 4th gear. Is my tranny about to go? How can I fix this?

well first you need to determine if the lockup in being enabled, do you have any codes ?

I have the same problem in my roomate's car. No code but the SES light flashes when it should be in lock up. I reset the DTC with the diablo while driving and the light stops flashing and it goes into lock up. 10 sec later its unlocked again. Does the same thing everytime.
Sorry if I'm hijacking.

I don't get a flashing ses light either. The engine runs great, but its just not locking up.

Like he said, "normally" this is from the random misfire getting triggered. Happens all the time to cars with stalls & cams. If you have a tuner (not a Predator) you can go in & set ALL of the cells to 32767 in the Eng Diagnostic area (on HP Tuner).

I had the same problem. Junk the TCI converter it is the problem. Trans is probably fine but definatly change the converter. They are having a HUGE problem with this.

I finally got an ses light. I got p1870. But right now I'm not worried about the tranny I need to get the front end fixed cuz a cop decided to cut me off and turn and just stop in the middle of the road to get me to pull over.

I was having this problem..Think we got the bugs worked out now..We raised the mis-fire codes & it stayed locked, then blew the trans after 1400 miles on a new rebuild..Runs great now....I believe I just got a bad trans..Try raising the mis-fire codes & go from there.

i just got that code p1870 on my way home from school. My converter was not locking up in forth either. By the time I was home the converter broke and now i need to get it rebuilt. ohh btw Yank tt 3000.

1870 Happens when the converter is comanded on and this does not happen , or when its comanded on in fourth gear and excessice converter clutch slip is detected,
