Is torque converter good idea??

Question Is torque converter good idea??

I have a 99 z28 completely stock with an a4. I was wondering if it would do me any good to put on a torque converter with it being completely stock or if a torque converter only gives you gains with mods and a cam.

A modest converter in the 3000 to 3500 range , Even with no other mods can give a very significant performance increase .

and how would this be on my reare end, drivetrain, etc. would the tranny and all the drivetrain still last or would the torque converter wear it down and eventually kill it

Well any thing you do that increases torque and hp being transfered through the trans/rear end in any manor is obviously going to be harder on both. But for the most part it depends of you and how you drive. But like anything you do converter/ head whatever if you are not willing to accept that these other parts may suffer and have to be upgraded to handle that power , Then you should just leave the the car stock ." Its all part of the game, You play You pay The harder you play the more you are gonna pay", Thats what my dads mechanic told me the first time I broke my trans at 16. He was and old hot rodder himself and very to the point.

A 3000 to 3500 stall isn't going to break the tranny or the rear. Just put in a good cooler to keep the temps down. Mild bolt-on cars (e.g. lid, catback, UD pulley) with a street converter don't seem to experience a very high rate of failure for the tranny and almost never break a stock unmolested rear.

i would go ahead and do full bolt ons first. then after that do a converter w/ a trans cooler
