Default Yank SS3200 Torque Converter

Hey guys I've been really looking into getting the Stealth Thruster 2800 converter from Yank for a while now...but...now I was told that driving around town there isn't going to be much difference between the ST2800 or the SS3200. I was wondering if any of you all have either of these converters in your car and if pros and cons please. How does the car drive when taking off from a stop...does it slip really high or is it a tight converter until you really lay into it? I'm not loking for max gai in performance just a little boost without giving up to much MPG and drivability. Thanks

Here is what I can tell you. I have a TCI 3500 stall with a 2.5 STR and 3.23 gears. When I take off from a stop I have to give it a little more gas then before but it isn't bad at all. When I cruise at slow speeds (10-30 mph) I am still under 2000 rpm's which also isn't bad. At 40 MPH my converter locks up and it's 100% like stock in feel and MPG.

Now I have read and fully believe that Yank SS series converters are more effiecient and tighter/more streetable then TCI. So IMHO the choice shouldn't be between the Yank 2800 and 3200. It should be between the 3200 and 3600. And even then I would vote SS3600 all the way.

I would like to know this too. I am trying to decide between the SS3200 and SS3600 and would also like to know what kind of rpms and other things these are when just driving around normally.

I know a guy with a Fuddle 3500 2.1 STR and it feels like stock above 40mph and revs up a little more than stock on slow take offs. maybe a 1-2 city mpg diff and 0 highway diff.

My SS3200 takes off like a stock converter untill you dip into it and then it feels different than stock. It made my car much more fun to drive, and didn't take away any driveability. If I had to daily drive my car, I could do it without giving it a second guess. From what your describing you need, this converter is probably going to be perfect for you.

After I put it in, I kinda wish I went with the 3600, but the nice part about the 3200 is the fact that if my mother, father, or grandmother ever needed to borrow it to get around, then I could honestly say they wouldn't have any trouble. If they accidently gave it a little bit too much gas at the right time, I might need to get a new Camaro.

I had an SS3200 prior to the blower, and I liked it. I gained 3-4 10ths 5mph at the track & it drove in town almost like stock. Very tight, no heat issues, good 1st stall....

You wouldn't know it from stock ... except for at WOT. It's also very effecient .. there were only 7hp between locked and unlocked on the dyno .. torque numbers were about 25 off locked/unlocked.

Great converter!

Yanks are right on the money. SS3200 will flash 3200 rpm's, SS3600 flashes 3600 rpm's, ect.

So if the SS3200 behaves similar to the stock converter under normal drive/acceleration, how does the SS3600 feel? Does it still stay down there in rpms until you hit the gas, or is it more loose feeling driving normally?

You'll have the loose feeling, like its slipping but not by much.

yeah i would go with a ss3600. after your done with it though i bet anything your gona wish you went bigger. im putting a ss4000 on mine. go big or go home (thats just because i dont have to drive mine everyday) so depending if your going to change your cam or not thats how i would determine it. with the ls6 though i would go 3600

IMO, going bigger than 3600 and DD on city streets is too loose. I opted on ST 3500 and compliment it w/ 3.42 rear.

Go w/ a 3600 or more. 3200 is too small for mods.

It should stay down enough to not bother you. You might be at say 1500 rpm's while cruising through a parking lot instead of 900. But is that really a big deal? I was nervous about looseness and driveability when I first got my 3500 stall. After driving it for a few days I was so used to it that I don't even notice it anymore. My wife drives my car also on occasion and has no issues with it.

Now I wish I went with a 3800 stall. I strongly recommend getting the SS3600. It'll take very little time for you to get used to it and if you go smaller you'll probably regret it.

Good luck.
