I saw a computer attachment in Vette magazine just a few months ago where it would switch a 4L60E over to a full manual. Not sure if thats what your looking for but its a start. I am not sure which one it is. If you need me to find it just email me at sited12@yahoo.com and i could find it when i wake up.

There's a guy I know who's developed a full manual valve body for the 4L60E trans. No automatic feature any more, but when you move the shift lever, it shifts, BAM, just like that. He's not started selling them yet, but he will soon. There will be an announcement here on LS1 Tech.

Yeah thats the exact thing this computer set up does. No more drive and over drive. Also had some other features to it like a shift kit and what not. Looked like an awesome idea. And since the vette and fbody use the 4L60E it should be an insteresting product.

I thought they were the same shape and size and set up but internally i thought they were different. Not really sure about that. I know they are practically the same so it may work.

How about a trans brake for the 4L60E?

GM changed the naming convention of transmissions in the early 90s. The 700-R4 was renamed the 4L60, as was added an electronicly controlled tranmission called the 4L60E (basically a 700-R4E) or 4L80E for trucks. Internally/externally they are the same, less the differences from linkages to connectors.

why is it a waste of money for a trans brake on the 4L60E? i can maybe see why youd say that about the valve body...for the fact that its an auto and why want to shift an auto, but not the trans brake. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

I have a manual valve body for the 700R4 and it is for the standard valve body 700R4 (pre 89 aux valve body) then in 94 GM changed the trans to the 4L60E which has a complete different valve body design. Yes the trans are similar and are based of the same parts and case the valve body is where most of the changes are. the 4L80E is a completely different design based off the old turbo 400 (3L80) and share no parts with the 700-4L60-4L60E.

Someone else mentioned it, is why I said something.
Some stock guys are trashing them and some higher hp guys have had some luck. But the overall picture is that these trannies can't handle much over 400rwhp for a length of time. FLP seems to be doing a good job of making them hold to some power but I am willing to bet these trannies will also see trouble. Maybe Chuck from FLP can give a lil more insight to this.

well i agree with you tim, to an extent. these transmissions cant hold alot of power for a long period of time. however, with the advent of many companies that do rebuilds and using stronger and stronger materials...i think we are making good progress. i know reliability is an issue here, but anytime youre running big big power, you can expect much more rapid drivetrain wear.
