I am doing the same thing you are and have a 98 also.. Except I am gonna go fully manual with the 4L60, that way I wont need any wiring harness except for the speedo.

the only way i would see is to wire all the 26 pins that go into the tranny and buy the pigtail and run individual wires from pcm to tranny. besides that i dont know if going vacume modulated would work.

A buddy of mine has a 99 M6 and 5th gear went out, so he is also swaping over to a A4 and running into the same problem. Chevy house priced him a harness at $1200.00

MORE IDEAS ANYONE!

Sounds like I want to do the exact opposite from what you guys are doing..

I want to go from A4 to M6..

Is there a write up or anything around about it? Is it as tough as it seems?

i just did the swap about 2 months ago and i can say its not that hard. i did all of mine ,m6 to a4, and most of the other car ,a4 to m6, i can say the hardest part is getting the hole on the firewall to line up perfectly so the master doesnt leak, and it is already outlined and ready for cutting. but i feel it was easy cuz both cars are 99 and everything was traded pcm, harnes, and tranny and stuff that goes inside car. with out the harness you can get a aftermarket controler but i think they run for like 500.
and there is a write up in the stickies that explains the a4 to m6 part really good.

Yeh.. It's a tough call..

I definitely need a new transmission.. Just throw a built A4 in there and up my stall or go M6..

Tough call..
