Gears or Converter?
I have a 98TA A4 with 2.73 gears. Its a daily driver so streetability is very important. Should I first replace my gears? And if so to what? Or, some people have recommended I first get a torque converter. What should I do first?
Thanks a bunch

Hmm...catch 22.
To go up in gear size I believe you would need a #3 carrier. You would probably want 3.73s if you're going to spend the money. Very nice improvement but more money because of the carrier.
A SuperYank 3500 with the 3.73s should be very streetable. With the 2.73s, I understand that it would be considerably looser. The tq converter should make the biggest difference though.

Most gear manufacturers make 3.23, 3.42, 3.73, and 4.10's for the 2 series carrier. I have 4.10's with my A4. Unbelievable pull from a launch. If my Camaro was my daily driver I would not go with 4.10's (2800rpm at 70mph). I would go with 3.42's (quite) or 3.73's (loudest). I originally had 2.73's. Good Luck!

depends on how wild you are going to get with the car. For just a few bolt-ons, I'd suggest a 3000 - 3300 stall converter like the Yank TT 3000 3.0 (if they have any left), the SLP 3300 or Vig 2800 and leave the gears alone. For a max effort car you'll want at least 3.42 gears and a minimum of 3500 stall.
