Default CONVERTER HELP ASAP

so we get everything swapped from my old converter to the new converter PI. we get it all done and take it for a test drive.. drives normal but shifts are sloppy and then when returning home i give it gas to about 4000 RPM's and the stall/ transmission locks up.. it rolls but it wont move when gas is applied. i can sit there and rev it up in D.3.2.1. and it wont move an inch..it will roll so i dont think trans is locked up

what could be wrong..we filled it up with some fluid but im HOPING and PRAYING it was to low and possibly over heated enought to where it wouldnt shift..

have you opened it back up to look at the converter? it sounds like it may have become disconnected from the flexplate. i doubt it overheated, althought it could have if you were running on it long and hard. did you install a transmission cooler in tandem with the converter?
if you can give it gas and there is no foreward movement it means that there is a loss of torque transfer either between the flexplate(turned by the crank) and the converter or there is actually an internal issue within the converter, and i really doubt its the converter. let me know if you find anything else out.

also did you change out your fluids and transmission fluid filter, and then refill to 4 quarts plus filling the new converter before putting it up and on?

Other possibility is the tranny pump gave up.

ok im going to recap everything that happend this past most shitty weekend ever.i was hoping to have the converter in saterday and be romping people saterday night after i broke it in.. well that plan went to ****.. here's what happend..

1. put the new converter on and bolted everything back up, started it up and dust conver hitting flew plate..wasnt touching the side of flew plate in 2 places..not big deal really, i go drive it and it shifted sloppy. i turn back on my road after driving it for about 1-2 miles and get on it up to about 4000 RPM's.. it wouldnt shift to second, i coast the car all the way back to my house..stop in front and give it some gas to go back up the drive way..car wont move well im dead tired at this time and all my friends who were helping were exhausted also so we decide maybe the trans wasnt full of fluid, we did put fuild in it before driving. so we let it cool down hopefully it was to hot and thats what caused the no shifting.. we tried it after about an hour and it didnt work..

2. the next day we tried it again and it didnt work, trans was full of fluid, cooler hooked up right, so we decide well lets just put the stock one back in and ill figure out what the deal is with the new PI verter.. we put the stock one back in and everything goes smooth..until a wiring harness from hell gets caught in the top of bell houing little did we know that was here and tighted a bolt hear it and CRACK! a piece of the bell housing chipped off around 1 of the bolts on driver side..i was pissed, but o well i can get that fixed later

3. bolt bell housing back to motor and then tighen stock converter back on..we then decide to turn the crank on motor manually and see if flex plate is rubbing the dust cover...the crank wont budge..Not an inch!!! so i got mad and cussed the car out..i gave up there, we put some stuff back together and i had it towed back to my house so i can get it fixed somewhere and its not sitting in a friends garage.

4. so now i have a converter that may or may not work (the PI) and a transmission that is locked to the motor that wont budge. err and chipped piece of bell housing..

so i need some major help where did the install go wrong, i plan on dropping it off somewhere and letting a shop fix what i started..

last night i was contemplating selling the car but i know the converter is going to be bad *** when i get it in and working..

sorry for long post but i needed to vent

**cliff notes** motor and tranny wont budge, i gave up and am taking it to a shop to get fixed

When you stabbed the converter on the tranny did you rotate it while pushing it on? It should have clicked 3 times and with each click went further into the tranny. After installing the tranny, did you have to pull the converter up to the flex plate? There should have been about a 1/8 inch gap. What dust cover are you talking about. 4L60E's don't have a dust cover. Sounds to me like you didn't get the converter engaged in the front pump correctly.

i talked to another guy today and told him what happend..he thinks the transmission is burned up and the pump is fine.. i really dont think thats the case but i know nothing about this and its obvious now..the trans had fluid in it and i only drove it 2 miles at most and no more than 30 miles an hour...im thinking maybe the converter wasnt fully on the pump, yes i did hear it click 3 times when the converter went on...but who knows maybe it came loose or something..who knows..

someone please tell me the transmission is not burned up..
