What stall converter would you run?
I have a ls1 with a TH400 behind it. It is in a 64 Chevy II that tips the scales at about 2800 lbs. The motor is basically stock right now but I plan on putting in a bigger lumpy stick and running a small shot of nitrous through it (125hp). What stall converter would you guys run if you were in my shoes?
Thanks
Frank

Re: What stall converter would you run?
Here again the question of how do you intend to use the car comes in. Is your goal a bad a$$ 1/4 miler with rear tubb's and big gummies. If so, then the big TC's are going to get you there. If you are putting together a street cruiser that will shock the s--t out of a lot of rodders and still get 20+ MPG highway then a conservative TC like the 2400/2800 Vig' is going to be tough to get the traction to the pavement with the available rear wheel well room you're dealing with. What are you building towards ?

He's better off with more stall and less gear, even for the street. Less than a 3000 stall is a waste with an LS1. You drop too low rpm wise on the upshifts. A SY 3500 for street use is the minimum I would use unless you are more show than go. At your weight, a 3500 stall will not feel real loose, even with a low gear like 2.73s.

Re: What stall converter would you run?
My plan is for a bad *** street car that can drive to the track and lay down some impressive numbers. I'm more concerned with performance rather than gas mileage. Out back I have a Dana 60 with 3.73s. The car is mini tubbed to fit a 28x13.5 et street.
I talked to ATI and TCI yesterday and they both pretty much agreed they wouldn't do anything less than 3000. Both of them tried to sell me a 3000 stall converter with anti baloon plate. I'm not to sure if they're saying that cause it's what they have on the shelf or if it's really what I need.
Thanks for all the help guys!

If you plan to add N20 to the mix then a small stall might be better.. but for kick azz NA times... go for at least a 4000.
