Default Possible 4.10 install problem ......

I'm planning on putting in 4.10's on my 2002 SS and I heard that there is a problem in putting in 4.10's on the 2001's and 2002's, something about a part rubbing, a paddle??? Sorry, I'm not up on all the details in the diff. I have the Torsen.

Has anyone installed 4.10's in their 2001 or 2002 F-Bod. Did you have any problems or know what the problem is???

Are you installing them yourself or having a reputable shop do it?

The problem is the thrust block.

To be general...
You take off the dif cover.
5/16" bolt comes out..
You pull the block that the bolt was holding in out of the center of the differential.
You push the axles in and remove the c-clips.

That block is the problem.

when you put the new 4.10 ring gear on, it extends just a pinch over the entrance hole for the block.. the block MUST go in straight.. can't be wiggled in..

What you have to do is grind it down a little bit.. I ground a groove on the bottom of one side and a groove in the top of the other side.. It gives it a little bit more of play to wiggle in.. and still does the job of keeping the axles out.

I have a friend installing them, who is really good. Turns out he knows about the paddle problem, that a little grinding is necessary.

For those with the Zexel Torsen rearend, where id you get your install kit and what was the part number?????

Look to the right. SLP has just the kit you need.

Found the same thing out when I tried installing a 02 torsen in my 99 Z with a 4.10.

Get the SLP paddle kit or do like I did, grind.
