Default Help with tranny problems, lost 3 and 4

Ok, this is like my 7th 4L60E...

None of them have lasted more than a month and I never even took them to the track. The past few times I'll have about 200-500 miles on them and out of the blue i lose third and fourth gear.

The builder is reputable but I'm starting to wonder, two or three times maybe. But I'm on number I lost count.

Its vac modulated tranny.

Any suggestions or what stuff I should have him put back in it? Clutches wise.

There is no advanatage to a 700r4 over a 4l60e , they are the same trans except for the way there shifts are controlled. If your having so much trouble with the preent source of the trans or builder , Perhaps you hould consider another built trans a completely different unit ,Sounds like eithersomethings being built wrong or I have seen cases where there was some issue with the trans case or valve body that cause repeated failures.

Is it always the 3-4 clutch pack that goes out?

Use a different builder, period. MAny peopel use the 4l60e without trouble once they use a good builder. A reputable tranny guy doesn't make him a reputable 4l60e guy. No offence to him, but it sounds like he needs more knowledge on the 4l60e

Well I've seen a car that runs a 700r4 he build run 9's all day. Hes an old man thats been doing it since the 50's. But I think your right.

I bought this transmission and it needed rebuild. It lost the 3-4 clutch pack the first time it went out. Then I paid my builder to rebuild it and its done it probaly 4 more times.

I have a QRC tranny that needs new frictions sitting in the garage I think thats where I'm going to take it.

"Dam, with all the money I spent rebuilding this same tranny I could have bought a performabuilt"

Quote from last night. It blew up on the motor too, I didnt even get to spray the bitch!

I could not drive a car without overdrive again like I did in the old days, would be no fun and at 329 a gallong for even regular , I would have to drive it around the block once a week and that would be about all i could afford lol
