The car is a street piece with an air ride suspension, I want it to hook on a street tire in 2nd gear and I want to be able to handle it in the rain. What would you suggest then given that criteria?

 

"Street tire" meaning drag radials? Or Michelin Pilots, etc?

 

Street tire meaning whatever I can street fairly safely in rain. So if I can do it with a BFG radial, then thats what I mean. Not a street tire as an all season.

 

DRs in the rain is a big no no. I'm sure people have done it before but if it was me theres no way in hell I'd want to try it- Esp. with a 3600 or 4000 stall. Your might have a lil trouble hookin up a sport tire (not DRs) but to me it would be worth it if i was runnin it in the rain also. Ever thought of buyin 2 rims, even stock fbod rims w/ a pair of DRs on them and then when you go to the track switch them out.

 

The car doesn't go to the track. Thats the point. Its a pure street vehicle.

 

I had a 3400 2.1 Fuddle as my first converter, then the trans went out so I went with PT4000 and Performabuilt Level 2 combo. I've always thought of myself as a "weenie" when it came to these types of things, but it seems to take maybe 100-200 rpm more to tootle around, but like everyone says (with big stalls) when you mash the honker pedal you forget all that!! I explain it to friends like this:

What it does after you punch it more than overrides worth how it acts in slow speed driving.

I actually had to let my mother use it for some errand running (it was also kind of an acid test for such a big converter) and all she had to say was it was "loud", but she says that even when its locked up and most would consider it pretty quiet. Based on that I would say it passed.
