Default question about driving with a converter on the street

i just put my yank ss3600 in this weekend, and im taking it easy for a couple hundred miles. i hear this converter is really nice for the street. when u guys talk about nailing it from a slow roll, like 20 mph, what gear are u in....are u in 1 or 2, or are u in 3 and nailing it so it downshifts? also, is it bad to nail it in 3 or 4 while the converter is locked? i just figured it would be easier on the converter if it didnt have to unlock when u floor it. should the converter always be unlocked before you nail it??

I don't think you really need to take it easy. Stalls don't really require break in time like a motor does. I've driven mine like I stole it since the day it was installed and 2.5 years later I have 0 problems (knock on wood).

Just leave it in either 3 or OD. It's not good for the 4L60E to manually move it in and out of gears. From 20 MPH while in OD the transmission should automatically shift down to first and pull hard.

It'll be fine. Yank builds some of the strongest and most efficient converters. Nail the gas as you see fit whether the converter is currently locked or unlocked. I've never had any problems with mine and I've nailed it plenty of times while my converter was locked.

Enjoy the new verter and good luck.

thanks a bunch man. i just figured the more ur converter locks and unlocks, the more stress ur putting on it. so i figured maybe it would be better on it to floor it while it was unlocked rather than while locked. thanks a lot for you help buddy

Your converter will unlock and lock under many conditions, This will not hurt anything they are made to do that .

Great converter, I have the same stall also, you shouldn't have to worry to much about the break in period, I had mine put in, then it went right on the dyno for some WOT runs. So you can get on it whenever you want.
Also leave the stall in D, that is where it has the most line pressure, don't manually shift it.
Get out there and enjoy that thing man

Nope, no problem punching it from 4th., converter will unlock and downshift to 3rd, like Performabuilt stated above.
