What a 700? If you dont like breaking trannys go with a race preped 4l60e or TH 400. not a 700R4.

What is needed? Alot of $$$$$$$

I was looking at it myself. I said screw that noise and ordered a race prepped TH400. It will be here in a week. In the future I have the option of adding a overdrive unit to it. Even after I buy everything for my TH400 and lets say a Gear Vendors OD, I would still be at about 1/2 the cost of what is needed to convert to a race prepped 700R4 with all the goodies etc.

I'm converting from a M6 too. I'll let you know how it goes.

Well I tried a 700r4 for a while when I was turbocharged. Kept smoking the 3-4 clutches because I couldn't get it to downshift properly. There is no good way to set up the TV (detente) cable to kick down the tranny. Inadequate line pressure was the culprit. Don't know how you plan to set yours up, but my TH350 had endured lots of abuse (600ftlbs of torque) and never failed yet.

I have a fully manual forward pattern 700R4 w/ transbrake on order, expect to see it in the spring (I'm in no hurry). I won't have to worry about a kickdown cable with the manual valvebody. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> Price was significantly less than one of Yank's 400 or 350 kits.

Anyhow, this thread is interesting:

I haven't figured it all out yet either, since the trans isn't here yet.

Keep us posted. I'm curious too.

u will need a crossmember custom made cost 30 dollars at a muff shop to make it. u will need to get your pcm programed so it wont set a code for the speed-o. you will need to tell hoever your getting your convertor fron that you are puting a 700 on a ls1 so they can get the input shaft seal in the convter, the 700r4 will bolt right up with no broblems.
i had a 700 in my car for 1 year and had no broblems, worked great. I went 10.60 with that set up so if you get a good one that is built good it will last.
Any more Questions give me a call 504-400-3189 Nick
have fun
