240* trans temp!!!
My new tranny is running too hot. Driving around town, the temp hangs right around 230*, but occassionally goes upward of 240*. The tranny is a Rossler T2 TH400. I have a B&M 24,000 GVW trans cooler on it. Apparently, thats not big enough. What cooler do you all recommend I use to bring the temp back down?

With and 8 inch 4000 stall and that gear you are going to generate alot of heat at lower speeds under stall. Remember energy is never lost only changed and the slipping of the stall at low speeds is actually turning the energy from the engine that is not being transfered to moving the car into heat. Sounds like you need a fan or additional cooler or both.

If you like visiting salvage yards :-), you might find a small fan off an import that will work nicely as a tranny cooler fan (~ $5). Also if I am not msitaken, some trucks had fans on their oil coolers that can fit your application. Then wire the thermostat to kick the fan on via a relay at a predefined temperature.

While seeing *240 in traffic may not be of concern in traffic, that does not mean there should not be some way of increasing cooling capacity by utilization of a fan as an example...
The problem with high temps in suburban areas is we tend to forget how long that fluid has been in there and it becomes glazed in a short period of time. Which leads directly to premature failure of soft parts... seals, clutches, bands ... etc.........
Good Luck,

I personally wouldn't bat an eye at 240 deg. trans temp.
The trans should really be kept cooler than 200* IMO. If mine gets over 165* I start paying close attention. Heat kills transmissions, period.
You may have to work harder with a 4000 stall to keep things cool, but it is worth it.
BTW, I run a 40K cooler.

when was the last time you changed your fluid? as the fluid breaks down over time it resists less and less heat
