Default Stall converter?

Im stupid when it comes to automatic trannys. Now thats out of the way, Sorry but i grew up with t-56's and thats all i know till now. I have a c5 and thinking about a yank 2800 stall. No major mods. Just intake and exhaust. Would anybody lead me in the right direction please. is a 2800 stall to much?would this make things uncomfy to ride around in?

thanks
Jeff

I would go a tad higher like 3200-3500 lock up converter. Every person is different, my wife hates the 4000 I have right now

I run a 3400 Fuddle stall in my daily driver that sees occasional track duty with the mods in sig. I enjoy the heck out of it. It takes a day or two to get used to the difference but then you ask yourself "why did I not do this before?". If you double duty or even have an occasional street thrill/kill then don't do anything under a 3200 cause your C5 will handle it fine. Thats my .02.

Well i guess the guy at the tranny place was feeding me a line full of **** then when he told me not to go with a 2800 since it was my daily driver. He recommended rebuilding my stock converter.

Thanks guys!

Yeah in my opinion anything below 3000 is a waste of time and trouble. Thats not to say take it too much higher.

With a stock engine that breathes a bit better the 3k stall will suit you just fine. A stock converter stall can typically be said to max out at like 2400 -2600. That is my experience anyhow. And those are just too tight for the cars we have done that on. have had too many guys come back asking for more stall... allot of the guys I work with really like it when we install a 3600 brake stall unit on their heads / cam combinations.

Again, 3k and yer good to go!

all solid advice your getting jeff.

the 2800 yank i was running in my s/c c5 felt almost like the stocker. barely noticed it...until u lit it up.

but the Vig 3200 was a hole new story. slightly looser around town..(very slightly). but when u hit the go pedal things really changed up.
it helped me get my 10sec pulls in the 1/4.
normal was 1.5's for short times with a best of a 1.32 (lifting both).
this was a heavier than stock 00 c5 (intercooled maggy 7lbs boost, rollbar, etc)
465tq, full tq was at just over 27-2800rpm. WITH the verter...
good stuff, total blast to drive.
stupid fun off the line is what we called it...LOL

I will be doing a lot of in town driving so i dont want to go to radical. I will occationally rough up a little rice burner aka honda or jap anything on my way to work just for ***** and giggles but a 2800 will be superior to my oem converter.

I originally went with a TCI 2800 stall. Truthfully it was not much different than the stocker. I got tired of the 60E breaking and bought a TH400, it came with a Coan 4K stall nitrous converter.
Its not a lockup converter and I could not daily drive my car as the gas bill would absolutely kill me.
I will just say this, I will never go back to a small stall. In the past I was very afraid of a huge stall, bad drivability, having to give it WOT to get anywhere, etc.
This Coan converter has made a believer out of me.
And with a lockup converter........no question left, its the best of both worlds.
