Default Stall Help ...

I was looking into getiing a 3000-3400 stall for my 2000 t/a ..I was wondering what all I would need for the entire install, I have heard a tranny cooler but what else would I need? what are some good brands? I have looked at a yank but am still kinda new to torque converters...And what does a full install usually run? thanks

The minimum you would need is the TC and a cooler, plus all the fluid.
Personally, I would also replace the filter and do a shift kit. You don't have to get a tune to run the convertor, but it will help if the trans settings are updated.
The labor cost varies greatly, depends on where you go. Just the TC and the cooler should cost in the neighborhood of $300, IIRC.

maybe if you get a generic converter. my yank ss 3600 cost me 675 and then another 55 for the cooler.

some words of advice, you get what you pay for. remember that. thats with pretty much evrything car related. good luck

I think KOOLAID ment the installation cost would be in that range,

That is correct. The second half of his question was "And what does a full install usually run?" which I took to mean "what does it cost to have the full installion done at a shop?".

You might want to tune(line pressure, shift points, shift extensions, torque management) it to get the FULL potential of the stall.

To be quite honest, you could buy the tuner software and do it yourself. The changes mentioned by bene do not require a dyno. Then you would have your own copy of the software so you can learn tuning for the changes you would make in the future. Unless you have some boltons already?

I see. Then you would also need a wideband and lots of time to study the tuning documents.
I am in the process of tuning mine myself, for the first time. I don't like dyno tunes myself, because they don't do as much for closed loop as they should (IMO).
But it is nice to be able to get it tuned in one afternoon. It's a tradeoff.
You could get a mail-order tune, like pcmforless or madz28. But they won't be as accurate as a tune done on your own car, they will be ballpark.
As far as converters, there are lots of them out there, and lots of opinions on which are the best. Few like my Fuddle, because he dropped the ball for a while. But I ordered mine before he started mucking up, and it works just fine. Prices will vary from $400 up to over $1000.
For coolers, I recommend B&M 24000. Inexpensive, high quality, excellent reputation. The most popular brand on the site.
