Default 4l80e choices, manual or auto shift?

Need some info on 4l80e,I am doing a single 80 mm turbo set up,probably 800 rwhp ballpark, mostly street some strip. Can you have a transbrake with auto shift or not.I would like some suggestions for this set up ,such as manul or auto shift, the ins and outs of both, stall speed, rearend ratio, ballpark cost. Can you manualy shift a 4l80e under power or is this a no no, Any info or suggestions would be appreciated.Thanks.

On a 4L80E the manual valve must be in the 3 (aka D) postion in order to achieve braking. So that precludes any manual shifting when using a brake. I do recommend the brake in a forced induction application. Unfortunately there is currently not a solution for a brake and manual shift in an 80E.

The cost really depends on ehat you are looking for in your setup. If you can fabricate the conversion parts that will save some $$$. But on average the guys we deal with spend anywhere between $3,500.00 and $5,000.00 converting to an 80E.

I will be in the shop most all day tomorrow... feel freet o give me a ring. I will be happy to discuss your options and needs with you.

only reason i can think of to set up to manual shift is if you do not have or do not want to buy the computer necessary to do so.

i drop mine in 3 as said above, wait on the brake then just let the button go and steer. it shifts right where i tell it to ever time.. much better than i could do physically. somewhere in the run i do have to bump it up a gear so it will pull overdrive on the good runs

Do you set it to shift at a certain RPM? Differant settings for steet and track? I'm not very familier with tuning for a tranny.

Thanks, cable bandit,I am in north Ga and will have a set up similar to yours.I may hit you up for more info sometime.I hope to get to see your car sometime.I had thought about going with a turbo 350 or 400 to avoid the extra cost and problems but would love to have overdrive as my car will mostly be street driven. If you have more thoughts on this shoot them to me!Thanks again!

Thanks for the response M.M. I appreciate y"all letting me learn from your experiance.I have a moser 12 bolt and will start off with a 3.42 and see how it works for my setup.I will probably use the factory pcm (99) if that will work.I am open to suggestions on the transmission set up,stall, brake, what shop to use, etc. Thanks again!
