You shouldn't have to remove your headers. The alignment pins are just corroded, it's fairly common. Mine was a real bitch to separate, it took some major prying with a 24" prybar. Keep at it, it'll budge eventually.

The headers can be an issue when it is loose, you'll have to judge that for yourself.

How many bellhousing bolts did you remove?

The rusted dowels can be the cause of the problem... spray some penetrating oil on them and let them sit for a bit. It usually requires a bit of prying to get one loose if it has been in place for a few years.

Hope that helps.

quick question: when removing the A4 can you give me a quick rundown of how you did it? What size are the bellhousing bolts?
