ok so i put a shift kit in my 93 z28 this weekend. when i first start up the car and take it for a ride it doesnt want to shift till like 3500-3700 rpms driving it easy it does this for about 2 miles then when it starts to warm up the shift point starts to drop to about 2500 and once it gets warmed it shifts at 2.. and another thing i dont know if it is mint to do this or not but after it warms up when i come to a stop for like 6 sec it will stay in 2nd and take off from there. and sometimes it doesnt.

 

Sounds like you need to go back through the shift kit installation paying particular attention to the 1-2 shift valve and the throttle valve, Sorry your having and issue there I know it can be a great pain

 

Did you use thick grease on anything like it says (or used to say) in the instructions?
The first TranGo kit I put in a 700 I used grease to hold stuff and it acted real strange for a good 50 miles, then it slowly started running better. My guess is the grease needed to melt away.
I know this is a long shot but it would be an easy fix.

 

yeah i used grease on it.. when i put fluid in it i put a lil too much in it and i had to drained it out would that have any effect on it. but what stumps me is why it gets better when it warms up... thanks for the input btw.

 

Getting better when it warms up could mean that you have a sticky valve or two. When things get hot, they expand and free them up. Just my theory. Ya might want to pull it back off, and look through everything again. And fwiw, I never use grease in a valve body other than to hold check ***** in place. A good spray lube like wd-40 works great.

 

I would suggest to pay close attention to the spring setup on the throttle valve . If it still uses a new valve and 2 springs on the small valve they can bind up and stick the valve or not let it return all the way !!

 

i drove a nearby city which is about 30 mi away and once it warmed up all of my symptoms were gone it would shift at 1800 rpms and didnt stay in 2nd at a stop, i parked it for a hour and got back in and it was fine shifting out at 1800. it was fine. but i know if i let it cool off it will prob go back to the same way... but im going to take it back apart this weekend and see if there is anything sticking or binding and hopefully i can fix it...
