Vig 3800 for a bolt on & cam car?
I'm thinking of buying a Vig 3800 5 disk from a friend but I want to get some input as to how well this might work with my planned setup. I plan on getting headers, ORY, a mid to mild cam, and a few other bolt ons. I haven't decided if I'm going to get N20 but if I do I'll probably only run 100 shot. Right now I have 2.73 gears & will wait for gear upgrades after I get a stall. Nine Ball suggested a Vig 3200 & I thought a 3200-3600 would be right for me but the price is looking pretty good on the 3800 but I don't want to get it if it's not going to compliment my setup. I use the car mostly for fun on the street, I go to the track maybe 3 or 4 times a year at most & even though it's not my daily driver, I want to be able to take a road trip now & then. Please give me your feedback, advice, or experiences.
I like the Vig converters a lot but I would discourage for buying that converter. For one thing I don't like the multi-disc converters for a NA car unless you have plans of locking it up at full throttle. That's what the multi-disc converters are for. Another thing is I didn't see as much stall with the multi-dics compared to a single disc. My Vig3600 3 disc converter didn't stall near as much as my wife's Vig3200. Lastly anything over a Vig3600 I feel you would be losing too much efficiency. For a street/strip car I would stay with either a Vig3200-3600 or if you want more stall then that you might try the new Yank SS series converter. If you want an all out race converter go with the Yank PT4000. Hope this helps...
Yes, it's a great help, my buddies car is a N20 car so perhaps that's why he is using that stall instead of a single disc. Also, after staying up all nite reading tech here, I've decided on LT's instead of Mid lengths but I want some that won't drag & bottom out & that may keep me from lowering my ride even though I really hate the stock 4x4 stance. More investigating to do! Thanks for your help Paul! I emailed you guys about getting a Vigi in the wee hours of the morning, hope to hear back from your guys soon.
