Default How to determine gears?

Im wondering which gears i have in my car. Around what speeds would the car be shiftin into the next gear if i were to have the 3.23's?

Look at your RPO codes......thats what I would do. It will say GU_ (2-5)
Then decode it online.

If the gears are stock, the GUx code is the guaranteed way to tell (on the door frame sticker).

If you think they've been swapped by a previous owner, get it into lockup on the highway, make note of the rpm

@55mph
2.73's = 1378rpm
3.23's = 1630rpm
3.42's = 1726rpm
3.73's = 1882rpm

Your stock tach will be off a little bit, so a scanner would really be more precise, but that will at least let you know if someone has done a swap.

The "guaranteed" way to see what gear you have is to pull the diff cover and read the ring gear. That takes all the guess work out of it.
