TH400 and Gear Vendors overdrive kit..... reliability?
Ok... so say I wanted a TH400, but also want overdrive ... anyone here have the gear vendors overdrive kit? How does it affect the strength of a TH400?
Just curious.... hopefully w/my built 4l60e I wont be needing a TH400 for a while, but just curious

Re: TH400 and Gear Vendors overdrive kit..... reliability?
I did ALOT of research on this when I had my 69 Camaro and I found the Gear Vendors unit is actually stronger than the tranny. I believe it could handle up to 1200 HP.
Seems like you could set it up with a switch that you could turn the unit off (dimmer switch historically) and on with and you could actually OVERDRIVE every gear so that in effect you could have a 6 SPEED automatic. 1st, 1st with OD, 2nd, 2nd with Overdrive, 3rd, then OVERDRIVE. You could also set it up to automatically engage at a certain MPH like say 47 MPH and this would be seamless.
The onlt real drawback was cost (around 2,000) and possible interference with the tranny tunnel not providing enough room.

cool , thanks for the info <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
I did a few searches on the board, and checked out the gear vendors site.. and finally see how it works <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
I thought it was new gears in the trans... but it's just an accessory basically.... bolt sonto the tail of the trans.
Plus they offer a 2 year warranty.. not bad <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

There was a guy here on the board that did a TH400/GV OD in his car. His name on here was WS6 Chewbacca. Dont know what happened to him but you might want to do a search for some of his older posts about it.
