Default Hard shifts from 1-2 gears

Hello all

My car just started shifting very harsh from 1-2 gears, it will shift so hard it will chirp the tires. I can just ease into it from a stop and it will bark the tires. The car is completly stock except for a K&N filter. The car has 116,000 on it and I've had it for 2 1/2 years with no issues. 1 thing though is the rear end sounds like a damn wolf on a full moon night. Any suggestions??

Thanks guys

Clean your MAF!

Sometimes, the oil from the K&N filter can get on your MAF and will actually cause a big spike in line pressure. Go to Advance or Autozone or something and buy a bottle of MAF cleaner, it's only like $7. Even if this doesn't fix the problem, it doesn't hurt to clean your MAF.

What's the cure? My girlfriend's car started doing this after a long highway trip Thursday night. (see sig) Has driven fine since, but still throwing an SES light. The fluid looks good, and the transmission doen't feel like it slips. After I pulled the code, I went out and beat the crap out of the car... didn't show any signs of weakness.

jameos95ta - sorry for the thread highjack... hopefully we can both get some good from your thread.

Well there are several possibilites. The PWM solenoid screen could be restricted. The converter regulator valve bore could be badly worn. The converter clutch itself or the seal or the input shaft could have become hardand is leaking, The pump stator or bushings could be worn out.

With that number of miles any or all the abov is possible and likley. I would try replacing the PWM solenoid first and see whats in the pan , Fluid condition, debris, etc.
And you are likley close to needing a rebuild or replacement unit. Let me know if we can be of any help.

Thanks guys!

My K&N filter is filthy and my car makes a strange whistling/mechanical noise from under the car like an alternator spinning

I may add that it happens *only* after its been driven for a while, 10 miles more or less.

if its filthy then that would bea place to look first clean it and the MAF then see how it does.I have seen a dirty MAF kill a trans people dont realize how all this stuff interacts at times.

Its possible a MAF change or miss calibration can cause the PCM to miss estimate load and raise the line very high , I have seen this cause damage to the trans and On the dirty MAF GM had a TSB on it.

Buy a stock, unported MAF. Aftermarket MAF's are nothing but trouble, and the SLP is the worst of them all. Unless you're tuned for an aftermarket MAF, they'll only cause problems, and tuning for an SLP is the hardest.

Put on a stock, unported MAF. It's easily good for 500 hp and it will perform better than any other MAF on a stock tune.
