Stalls are rated at a certain horsepower. You can take one stall and put it in 10 cars and it will stall different everytime. There are so many factors that play into stall speed, like horsepower, torque, the curves of both, weight, etc, etc. Thats why your best option in picking a converter is to call a company, give them your complete list of specs, and let them recomend a converter for your application.

How can I do a brake test and check the true stall? I've read about that somewhere and I thought I remember reading it was not an accurate way of checking?
I've never tested the stall in my car.. I guess I should...

If you can put the trans into limp mode...which i think will be 3rd gear..than come to a stop, and just floor it..and watch what the RPM's flash too..this will be close to your true stall speed. You can put it into limp mode by disconnecting power to the trans.
