Does i need an oil flush?
Hi,
Sorry for my english, i live in france
I have checked my tranny fluid and it is not red but a light brown. It doesn't smelt burn but the odor is not like new tranny fluid,in fact it's like my steering fluid.
The tranny shift good (just a very little shake between 1-2 when cold).
I want to flush the fluid but i have seen here that it could be worse.
Or does i just install a tranny cooler and temp guage and see what happens.
I'm affraid because in france a tranny rebuild cost 3000$.
The car had 70000k and the last oil change is 37000K
Tell me what you think.
Thx

Je ne ferais pas probablement de rougeur complète, mais changerais le fuild dans la casserole et le filtre. Vous devriez être l'action sûre cela.
L'espoir cela aide et faites-moi savoir comment ce traducteur travaille comme je ne parle pas de français
(I probably would not do a complete flush but would change the fuild in the pan and the filter. You should be safe doing that.
Hope this helps and let me know how this translator works as I do not speak french)

A flush wouldn't hurt anything but your wallet (I paid $80 for one,
far from home with a trans full of Big&Mistake fluid that was not
happy). If you think fluid is contaminated or varnished I'd just get
it all out of there (being sure I was given a top grade ATF in
exchange). Changing just what's in the pan only does about
half the job, you could repeat it a few times and get to 3/4 or
7/8 clean but I'd favor the flush if the fluid is really suspect. I
would have the pan off one time though just to see what else
there is to see.

Ideally I agree , Im just a little shy about the flush thing , Only because I have seen a few bad results on high milage cars after its done, Coincidence ? Perhaps. But was just looking and I didnt note he said was changed 30000+ miles ago so he may be fine with the flush.

I got my A4 flushed at about 120k and it died within a month. It could have been that I had ran the transmission with low fluid for a while or it could have been the flush. All I know is that with low fluid (which I know was horrible for it) the transmission never screwed up. Had the transmission flushed and filled to the proper level, it died. Maybe the flush wasn't to blame, but you won't catch me getting another one. I also watch the fluid much more closley now.

Many thanks, i will buy a kit to make the flush and give it to a shop, i don't want the red shower.
I had look again at my fluid and it's pretty clear but not red. The car shift around 2200-3500rpm on normal driving and at the red area in heavy throttle.
Does it's easy to install a tranny cooler, and does it's ok if i put the temp sensor on the test port.
My car only run with dexron III, isn't it?
Many thanks again for your help
