Do I really need a transmission cooler?

I'm going to be running a Vig 3200 TC. I've heard from a few people that it isn't necessary to run a transmission cooler. Is that true or should I go ahead and get the cooler?

Heat kills trannies. High stall converters generate more heat than stock converters. A good cooler is $50. why take risks for $50?
