WOT.. Wont shift into 4th.. OD
Got to Ennis 1/4 mile run yesterday for FAST saturday.
Got my car the best I am going to get it. At this point in time without doing a little more.
I run automatic.. 02 Z28.. 4le60.... what sucks is 4th gear is OD. At WOT, car will not go into OD. My 3rd gear is topping out at 110 MPH, and I only got it to shift to OD once, and that was letting way off the GAS..
But had some great runs all day.
15 runs, only lost 3 times. WOOHOO...
2 times was to the STUPID Dodge CSX again.. MY BUDDY... He now has that dumb dodge running 11.9's....
I couldnt get him.
Here is my runs now. Compared to my beginning post, much better.
R/T.... .346
60'..... 2.016 ( still cant get that thing in the 1's.. but oh well.
330.... 5.492
1/8..... 8.324
MPH.... 87.56
1000.... 10.726
1/4.... 12.729
MPH... 111.35 ( This is the run I got it to shift to 4th... got over 110)
AND THE below is what 5 of my other runs looked like....only running thru 3rd gear.. topping out 110....

R/T..... .086
60'.... 2.115
330.... 5.595
1/8.... 8.436
MPH... 87.41
1000... 10.827
1/4.... 12.823
MPH.... 110.75
and then the others ranged from 12.8's to my tank being empty, 13.2's.
worst was 13.4, no N2O, and playing around trying to get 4th to hit.
I looked up and found out that at WOT, the car will not shift into OD.
Anyone know what can be done for this?????
But he was unsure at the time of how to do... I guess I will have to start researching this.
I heard there was some sort of accesory you can buy that will make the tranny do this..
I am looking around online right now for what that piece might be, without having to do the tuning.
Thanks for input on this performabuilt...
A good tuner can help you with the no 4th at WOT issue you are experiencing. We do that sort of thing in conjunction with Xtreme Horsepower ourselves.
Have you changed anything on the car recently? Anything as simple as an air filter even? The reason I ask is we have found a screwdriver and other tools inside the air cleaner housing and up against the MAF sensor! That itself can cause weird shift sequences, not to mention odd engine symptoms as well!!!
If you would like to get a good opinion, have someone who knows what he is doing and charges a fair price for his services take a look at your tune, just give me a call tomorrow! I can help you.

Thanks for that input... I have changed air filter.. Air lid, etc...
basics, but there are no tools in the car... This I am sure of for the fact
I have ripped everything apart last night to make sure I didnt break anything.

So I did full inspection of the car last night and it looked good.
I do need someone who knows about tuning on these for the tranny deal.
There is nothing done as of right now to the tune.
The tune is the bone stock tune on it.
we pulled up the tune on HPTuners at the track yesterday, and just kind of looked over everything, and that is where I seen as far as the computer was concerned we were running great...
Well other then the fact of the 4th gear OD deal....
Got a log on the car and my only knocking around was when the car would not shift.
But I will give you a call and see what you might be able to help me obtain on this car...
That would be great.. Thanks...

you got it, hit it on the nose....
Lid, and filter...
Then I stuck the 100 dry shot on... added Tr6 plugs
and running race gas to be safe to stay away from detonation.
This is all .........
The tuning comments are spot on... I do believe that if there are no mechanical issues the problem will be found in the tune. There is a high MPH threshold on these cars... not sure which ones exaclty. But I know that is one of the "features" Arvil tunes out next door at Xtreme when we tune trannies.

1-->2, 2-->3, 3-->4. For different tps settings.
At 80% or higher (estimating this tps setting from memory) the table has 256mph as the shift point for 3-->4.
So you need to lower this to something that makes sense, based on your gear ratio and rev limiter. I have mine set to 150mph in the 2.73 car.

I've heard that there is an "overdrive band" used in these transmissions for 4th gear, that can't handle a wot shift into 4th very many times, and can't hold 4th gear once you get to a certain power level. Unless you start tweaking the line pressure or going with upgraded solenoids, but those solutions are said to tear the mounting point (the smallest/weakest point) on the stock band.
My buddy has HPTUners and we suckded down the tune..
Guess what..... The tune is jacked.. LOL..
Speed governor set @ 110.. So no matter what i do, I am done at 110
DAM.... I have 3.73 gears.. Just found out.. But looking at logs when I am hitting the 110 mark, I am in 3rd gear and at around 5500RPM... So the car should hit 120 in 3rd no problem. setting the RPM out to 6100, and moving the governor to 256.
