Default 422 th400 9"rear what gears??? help!

I am selling my moser 12 bolt to get the billingsley 9" rear (the one they have for 8-9 sec. f bodies) it even has it's own swaybar like the wolfe already on it!

I will be running the following set up and need to know what gears to choose for the 9" rear end.

I am thinking something like 3.90 gears?? I don't want to be into the limiter (probably around 7k)by the end of the track. <img border="0" alt="[driving]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_driving3.gif" />

mti 422, S1 cam

Tnt 100 shot

rossler th400 with manual vb tbrake and STOCK th400 1st gear

28" et drags

yank pt 4000 (most likely, possibly different converter)

I run out of gear with a 3.73 rearend and 26" drags with a very similar setup, and that's not even spraying it out of the hole. With 28" drags, whatever is close to a 3.73 rearend in the 9" ought to work pretty well. If you go something lower than about 3.90 or so, look to go to 29" slicks or taller.

My buddy with his 355 "300 shot TNT" lt1 95 Z-28 runs a 4.11 in his 12 bolt, he goes 9.58@140 , had 4:30's and was on the rev limiter at about 1100 ft and ran 9.7@133.

He has a 29x10.5 ET Drags

Here is his page with more info, sound kinda similar to your setup.

Good Luck

I think he had to bang a little on the underside of the fenders, but other than that no rubbing whatsoever.

You have to be careful to take converter slippage into the equation too.

I figured it up for you. 3.89s will get you to 140 MPH trap speeds with 28" tires.

3.73s will get you to 149 MPH.

Basically, how fast do you expect to go?

BTW, I ran 137 MPH with 4.10s but that was with 29" tires crossing the line at 6850 RPM.

thanks Colonel,
I am thinking with the 100 shot I should be able to run a 9.90 or so hopefully around 135-140ish.

So what yall are saying is that you can't run a 28" tire with a 411 rear and a th350 or you will run into the limiter (7000 mine is now) at the traps??? My limiter will be set at 7200 to 7300 or so....
