Default To much stall for such a stock engine?

The guy that is helping build my tranny told me that i should get a smaller stall because the 3500 is to much for having a stock interals engine. He said my car isnt running as fast as it should because of this problem. So what is your guys input?

I started with a Yank ST3500 and then ran a Yank SS4000 when I was stock internals and I wanted more. I am waiting on a Yank PT4400 now that I am cam only. A lot of old school guys don't have experience with the LSX platform and therefore assume our cars are like the cars of old. The 3500 will only improve your performance.....I wouldn't go any smaller than that. Do you think it is hurting you? Does it feel better than it did before the stall? I wouldn't personally ever go below 4000 now that I've had one.

My input, he's wrong. Dead stock=any stall you want. Hell a 4400 stall would only make you faster.

LS series engines like more stall than the older engines... thats probably where he's basing his opinion. used to, a 3000 stall on a 350 was considered high... but that was A3, before OD and lockup converters...

I drove a 3200 on a stock 5.3 for a while and it ran great... I went with a custom grind 224/227 cam and went to a SS3600...

This guy convinced to get a stall for my Z28. I'm soo glad that he did. I got his old Yank 3500. W/ his yank and 3.42 gear swap I gain .5-.6 sec netting my consistency from 13.1s-13.2s to 12.6-12.7s.

agreed

vig 3600-3800 or a yank 3600 would be good.

I run a yank PE 4200 with just full exhaust and a lid but the motor is stock everything and the car whoops *** even untuned! I ran down 2 mach1's and a built motor H/C/I 5.0 car this past sunday with the car not shifting correctly cause' of the tune not being there this past sunday! I am a Ford mustang guy with over 20 years experience that thought 3500 was high on one of my mustangs with a C4 and clearly thought a 3800- on up stall would be way too much but after listening to the LS1 guru's I went out and got this stall for my car and am very happy with it so far!

Yeah, that's bullshit. I dropped .6 in the quarter and gained 3mph going from a stock converter to a Vig 3600, then dropped another .2 and picked up 1 mph going to a Yank SS4000.

And im another guy that just had a lid and full exhaust running a Fuddle 4000 with a 2.5STR without a tune & 2.73 gears and ran it without a problem, and it ran like a raped ape. Go big or go home has always been my motto

that's the problem with listening to people who *think* they know what they are talking about.

my car was perfect when i switched to tci3000, wouldhave maybe gone to 3500 but i still like it a lot. Huge improvement, best mod so far. Honestly dont be worried, i was so worried about size and stuff and driveability. Just pick something that will match youre gials and go for it. 3500 would not be too much in my opinion, still drives like stock until u get on it!!!!!
