what trans should i use
i was hoping someone with experience could give me some advice on my question.i have an 01 z28 that i would like to make much faster as money allows me to.its basically stock right now but im hoping to get into the 11 second range by spring.should i stay with the 4 speed auto now or go to a 3 speed auto? i dont drive it a whole lot so fuel milage isnt a big concern.it has a 3.23 gear ratio but after head and cam kit gets installed i will move to a 3.73-4.10 ratio.my main concern is the ratio difference between 1st and 2nd with the overdrive trans.should i go to the 3 speed auto to avoid the major dropoff or what if i went with a full manual 4l60e so i could just start in second and keep the extra gear? its basically a saturday night car but theres always a race in my town.thanks all.

The 4l60e can be built to handle some good power. I have a guy that I built a unit for that has a stock inturnal motor with every bolt on including suspension you can imagine that runs 11.70. I also have forced induction cars with big cubes that run deep into the 9's. I think the A4 will work just fine for what you have now and for what you are looking to do. Vince
Here is a picture of MattD's car on the launch. Pretty impresive for what it is.

thanks for info.im starting to think a full manual 4l60e would be fine.i like the way it takes off in first and would like to keep the overdrive because i do travel up to a 100 miles from home at times.

i wasnt sure how it works.if i want to take off in second gear i want to actually be in second and not have it shift from 1st to second.i was thinking the only way to do that was a full manual.my bad.
