Rev limiter Problems - Any Suggestions
I have an '99 LS1 with 34K mi and just had a Vig 3600 stall installed along with getting it dyno and tuned, via Ls1 Edit program.
The problem is the rev limiter is hit between 2nd and 3rd each time around 5700-5900rpm.
Brought it back to the tuner twice who made various adjustments, still the car hits the rev limiter as above.
My son and the tuner said it could be the trans.
Current mods:
Headers
3.73 gear
Lid
LS6 intake
3600 Vig Converter
ET Streets 255/40/16
Any help is most-appreciated

Whats the shift point set at as oposed to the rev limiter. With the 2-3 in particular with a stock trans and no shift kit I would expect to need a space between them of at least 500 rpm , More if there is alot of 3-4 clutch clearance. Even with low milage this is still very possible prelude to a 3-4 clutch failure .

In my race track / real world tuning experience with these units I have seen this condition too many times to not very comfortably say that if the tuner has tried to make modifications to shift points more than once and the result is the same or very similar, then the reason for this 2/3 rev limited shift is excessive clutch pack wear at the 3/4 clutches.
Now, the beauty of this condition is it might live for anohther year like that if you DO NOT allow it to hit the rev limiter frequently. But if you are like me or most of these other guys here... That'll never happen right?
I am going to recommend that you consider replacing the transmission soon. It would not be the 1st one I have seen knocked out after a converter swap.
Hope that helps.
