Default Weird Noise

I finally got my motor and tranny going (forged 347/4l60e), Im getting a clanking noise while cranking the engine, once it starts it goes away. i checked all the flywheel and torque converter bolt and they are tight. I called vigilante about it and said it could be the converter not having enough fluid it in, does this sound possible? i filled it up before i put it in the car, but the car has not been up to speed or shifted gears yet. i can also turn the engine over by hand and as soon as i take tension off of the bar it makes the noise.

Any Ideas??

thanks..

Unbolt the converter from the flexplate, push it towards the trans pump and then try to do the same test with the bar.

Yes. After unbolting the converter from the flexplate, slide it back and make sure there is clearance between the converter and flexplate prior to rotating the crankshaft.

Also, rotate the converter after unbolting it to see if you hear anything obviuos. You are also looking to see if it is difficult to rotate by hand.

Yes, the goal is to determine if the noise is in the engine or the tranny / converter.

Vince has a very good question... does the car move?

No the tranny does not need to be in neutral for it to rotate.
