LS1 to 700R4??? my new project -- Please help
I'm going to buy a complete LS1 for my 68 chevy pickup. The only problem I face is how to adapt my brand new bowtie overdrive's 700r4 to the LS1.
The LS1 is from a 98 corvette.
If anyone has had good luck doing this and knows what parts to get, please let me know. I have heard about spacers, flexplates, and different converter. I don't want to buy a new converter and I have access to a machine shop.
Thanks, Markb
You'll have to extend the pilot length on the 700R4 converter by .375" as well as drill the LS1 flexplate for your converter bolt pattern. The transmission will bolt up to your engine, but you'll have to leave one bolt out (It'll be obvious which one, the block doesn't have a hole drilled there.)
There is a slight difference in you trans mount location as well. You'll have to move the mount towards the front of the car approx 7/8".
Good Luck,
Kevin
I found a part number for a GM dual pattern flexplate (12551367) that I think will work and I guess I could machine a spacer for the crank.
I don't think I will have to move the tranny at all. I want to keep it in the same place and mount the engine where it ends up. Why do you suggest moving the trans?
Do you know what I need to do for the TV cable to fit?
Thanks, Mark (machine)
BTW, nice choice of truck, I have a 72 GMC I'm working on.
I didn't read your post close enough. I was thinking that you were switching from an LS1 4L60E to a 700R4. That's why I said that you would have to move your crossmember or mount. Since you're doing a complete retrofit, you'll be fine.

Does anyone know about the TV cable and how to adapt it?
And does anyone actually make a spacer or flexplate so this is a direct bolt-in?
Thanks
