its not going to be that much difference. it depends on if you want strength vs. overdrive on the ones listed. why not a 4l80e? it will give you strength and overdrive, though you will lose some power.

4L80E is 178 lbs mostly dry, no converter,
TH350 is 125
TH400 is 135.
So your wet weights are probably right for those two but your a bit off on the 4L80E.
The GV is right at 40 lbs too.

If your looking to go lightweight, your better off going manual. I've held my t56 in place while mating it back to the engine by myself a couple times and I've lifted it off the tranny jack over to a table by myself too. I'd say it weighs no more than 125 lbs.

That is with converter.
Any decent aftermarket converter will be significantly lighter than the stock one.

I got my weights from a scale. i.e. Actual first hand information.

So why then, do some people say "the T400s are soooo heavy"? It seems based on these numbers that a 4L is one of the heaviest ones. He's right about not looking at the weight in the trans.; weight should be removed from the motor, then outside/inside of the car such as bumper supports, radio, seats, etc. I have a 4L and (almost) gutted car that weighs 3200 with driver.

Most people are guessing based on BS they saw on the internet.
I see it all the time, A TH400 is so heavy, or my favorite "takes more power to turn".
The people who say these things would usually not be able to identify the transmissions if they saw them and certainly don't build them for racing use.

A TH400 is almost exactly 10 lbs heavier than a TH350. This 10 lbs IS rotating mass.

A 4L60E is probably about the same weight as a TH400. I haven't weighed one, but IIRC a 700-R4 is ~140 lbs and that is pretty close to a 4L60E.

A 4L80-E is a beast, it's heavier, but about the same weight as a TH400 and a Gear Vendors.

The weight of the trans has little bearing unless you're dealing with a full time drag car where every lb counts.
Then there are other things to address internally to reduce weight, parasitic drag, etc.
