Default weird problem

I got my car on the road today and i hve no first or fourth gear. I can shift it manualy into 2nd and 3rd but 1st and 4th will not work. the tranny was working fine when i pulled it out. i looked at the electrical connections and the yellow plug on the side of the tranny has no wires connected to it, looks like they broke off when we were putting the tranny back in. what does this plug control. also my odometer doesnt work, could this have anything to do with it? thanks in advance

Sounds like they broke your speed senor off. As mention above get it fixed and you issue will more than likely be resolved.
