The stock "tranny cooler" isn't a separate transmission cooler. It is built into the radiator.

An aftermarket transmission cooler just further cools down the fluid that was supposed to be going back into the transmission by running the fluid through another cooler. Get me?

Here's a flow chart of where the transmission fluid goes:

Transmission --> radiator --> transmission cooler --> transmission

I have a quick cooler question... I have a 2000 SS woth a B&M cooler now and the temp gets to 200 to 210. I know it shouldnt even get close to that hot, it should sit around 180 or so right? I shut the car down when the temp gets that high so i don't burn it up, Is there a bigger cooler i can go with that will keep the temp down? If so around what price.

B&M sells many sizes of coolers. Some of the sponsers here only show one or two sizes for sale, but if you look at a place like www.jegs.com you will find more sizes.

Are your fans coming on at stock temps still? If so, that's your problem. A bigger cooler won't help much with stock fan settings. Lower the fan cut-on temps with tuning, or get a fan switch to turn them on manually when the tranny gets too hot.

agree. Not only is there less fan time reducing air flow; the tranny fluid is going into a hotter radiator so it is getting little or no benefit from the internal cooler.

I most recently had a B&M 24K trans cooler, & B&M 3Qt. deeper aluminum pan installed on my stock 2001 Z28 A4. I also had a cyburdine digital transmission guage installed with the sending unit going into the drivers side of the transmission. At freeway speeds, my transmission temperature is anywhere from 145F to 152F. City driving my temperatures are a bit higher anywhere from 160F to 168F. I live in a very warm climate, and my guages are calibrated to + or - 1 degree.

If you use my numbers as a reference, you can plainly see the advantages of a cooler coupled with increased fluid capacity.

The cooler w/fan can only help more!! If I were you I would use a flange tool and make some kind of lip on the cut off end so that the hose clamp cant slide off
