Default 4L60E does not engage

What's up everyone.. anyways I'm about to buy a 2000 Trans-am A4, the automatic transmission is a new thing to me so I don't know much about them. but the transmission won't engage into any gears forward or reverse. the guy i'm buying it from was going down the road laying into it and all the gears just went out(I heard it lol!) but it's not the fluid... I will appreciate some help. Thanks!

Sounds like he blew up the transmission, I'd pass on the car, I'm sure a couple sponsor's will stop in and say exactly what probably went wrong. I have only very basic knowledge of automatics so I wouldn't know.

Probably a broken input or output shaft would be my guess. It is possible that the pump might be broken as well.

Yep, definately internal. To give you some numbers to work with in the interest of repairing it....

A well built unit will run you in the neighborhood of $1,850.00 from most high performance builders.

A solid well built torque converter can run anywhere from $650.00 - $950.00.

Hope that 's helps.

Its pretty aparent as mentioned you will need a trans, However the car if its in really good shape and you can get a good deal may be worth the money, The price range for a trans 1850 with a stock converter level 1 in ours and up , Please take a look at our site, And when looking at the car figure that away from its value. plus around 400 dollars for R&I , Which would vary wildly depending on MODS or not and general condition of the car and wether its what you are looking for. I have gotten some really good deals on broken cars over the years.
