When I bought my converter I had the same problem. Everyone kept telling me that it was the tune, but I later found out that the lock up clutch was all fucked up.

You should still verify what the PCM is telling it to do thats allways the first step and in many mnay cases thats where the issue lyes

well i talked to dave at yank and he said that its not the converter. he said it will either lock up or it wont. the temperature of the trans doesnt matter. so either i have a tuning issue or my trans is fucked some way.

Yank could be wrong. When I bought my PT4400 It would not lock up. I had the converter for less than a month and the lock up clutch **** the bed. It was not my tranny(which was brand new at the time) and it was not the tune. It was a bad converter.

if its locking sometimes and not the other then its prolly a tranny related issue like a noid or something..IMO

You might check for worn valve body bore(torque converter lockup valve) can do this, as fluid gets hot and thinner it can leak around the worn valve and loose pressure needed to keep the clutch active.

Take it to your local tranny shop. They should have a scanner or preferably a TRAN-X 2000. It's a breakout box and reads all of the ohms, amps, and resistance while testing componants such as your lock-up solenoid or the TFT sensor's resistance. Which by the way is temp related. Also, you could have nicked the input shaft o-ring just enough as to have pressure when cool but not warm or hot because softening of the o-ring and/or thinning of the ATF. Usually the clutch won't last long if it's a single disc. multiple discs create more crap and it gets everywhere. Time to clean out the trans! The first sign of trouble, get the trans out and check it but make sure a pro looks at it. Some of you don't do tranny's. My point is, if your exspensive motor has a noise, your into it!! The transmission gets all of the beating along with the torque converter which creates the heat. Get good parts like you would your motor. Did we have horsepower like this back in the 60's-early 90's? Hell no! I see street cars 500-1200HP running 8's-10's regularly. And driving to work and to cruises. I dig it! I'm new. Nice to meet you all. Hope the tips help.

Anythings possible As I said the first thing is to see whats beng comanded. One thing to note the PCM will disable the converter if it see excesive slip but this should set a code, But until whats being commanded is determine all is just speculation
