a stall converter, and a shift kit, just like it says. Below is links to both.
stall converter:

shift kit:

Hope that helps.

stall: high stall torque converter.
not much on the street, but shaves alot of time at the track

shift kit: a kit used to firm up shifts and beef up auto trannies.
makes you "chirp" the tires on mid to wide open shifts, depending on the kit and allows for a more positive gear selection

Ok, so i looked at the link on the "stall" and it doesn't tell me anything. What exactly am I stalling, and how does it help? Why is it better on track than street? I dont get it.....and Is it THAT big of a deal??

And the shift kit, Do I need to open up the tranny to use it, or is it truly reprogramming the comp.? Is it a big difference in driveability? How long does it take to install it? Is it a "needed mod"?

I've got an '01 SS with an auto.

to install the shift kit, you'll have to remove the pan and valve body for modification(the valve body, not the pan), so that also gives you the chance to change out to new tranny fluid. To install the converter, you'll need to remove the tranny, pull the old converter and install the new one. If you're getting it done at a shop, may as well do it all at once. You can change the values in the computer to firm up shifts a little without a kit, but you shouldn't change them if you install a kit, just way to dangerous for the tranny. The stall allows you to raise the RPMs higher at pre-launch at the track , giving you at least equal ground if not better launch than manual shift cars.On the street, you won't see much of a change, some times it may take a little more throttle to get it to roll out from a stop than with the stocker.I had a 3200 stall in my 2000 TA and it behaved close to what it did stock. If you're not gonna drag race alot, I'd vote against the converter and just do a nice shift kit.

I have a 3200 Vig and never intend to take the car to the track, the shift extension and mostly eliminating the dreaded 50 mph dead spot are worth it IMO.

If your truely this clueless (not trying to be a dick, just blunt), then the search button is your best friend. There is way too much to try and explain, you need to search for "torque converter" or "stall" and you'll get 100s of very imformative posts explaining just about everything you could possibly want to know about a stall. Some of the responses here are pretty good, some not so good. If you do a search you'll be able to make a much better desicion on what you want. And for the record, a stall will give a HUGE performance gain on the track AND the street, you'll just need some better tires to use it.
