Default A4 rear end gear movement, how much is normal?

noises coming from rear end like slack in the driveline say when i let off the gas for a little bit then get back on.? car only has 13,000 miles and very little hard driving. if i jack up the rear and roll the drivers side hub from side to side i can see how much slack there is before the passenger side moves. should there be any slack at all or what?

Have it checked out. Sounds like pinion has moved--crush sleeve, or needs re-shimming, or maybe too late....WJ. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

If it does not whine it can be axle splines having slack against the posi splines. I have quite a bit and it's annoying but not so dangerous. If I lift the rear and watch the ring gear it takes about 10 degrees of tire rotation before the ring moves. I had the same thing before and after my new posi so it's probably the axles in my case.

If it would clunk because of backlash or moved pinion there should be serious whining.
