Default Help car dies when put in forward gear

Since my brother is a lazy *** I'm posting this for him. Here is the description. My bro's 99 t/a has a cam/headers, tune, yadda yadda and the stock 4l60e. He was doing a burnout for photographic purposes and while doing the burnout the car stalled. He throws it in park and it starts right up. Sticks it in d and it stalls again. Throws it in park and it starts again. D...stalls. Thinks for a sec and puts in R and guess what, he backs it all the way home. Waits a while and there is no problem with the forward gears. Any thoughts????? I checked the fluid personally like 2 weeks ago and it was fine but I haven't gotten him to check it. Does it sound like low fluid?

which would indicate that the converter is going bad?

Maybe the car was alittle heat soaked ive seen a few cars when they get warm and then take some beating stall out during the p-d or p-r gear changes or it could of been what performabuilt said.

Check the transmission fluid and see if its burnt... smell it and look at it. I'm thinking he may have overheated the transmission/converter.

Convertor lockup looks like the issue, but how would that explain the reverse gear working?

ok here i am...so i did the burnout, my tires dont smoke alot so i had to do it for a little while, i was at about 4500 to 5000 rpms. then i let off a little and it stalled, so i went to start it back up, everything was fine, put it in D, it stalled, did it again and the same result. once more, same result. so i checked for ne unusual knocks or leaking fluid, there was nothing different. i then put it in reverse and it went fine, so i tried D once again and it stalled, so i drove in reverse for 3 miles back to my brothers house and when i put it in drive it worked fine, nothing unusual has happened since.......

The fluid is not directed such that lockup should be able to occur in reverse.
