Default Tranny starts in 3rd when really cold

Whenever it gets below 50 degrees outside and my car has been sitting for awhile, overnight, it starts out in 3rd. I have to manually shift into d1 or d2 to get 1st and 2nd gear. Even if i let the car idle for 30 mins to get warm, it still starts out in 3rd. I have to turn off the car and restart it and then sometimes it'll work right. If I drive it, manually shifting, about 20 miles and shut off the car then restart the tranny will work just fine. I installed a Vig 3200 late last spring and haven't had a problem till it started to cool off. I also have a shift kit installed, but i did that years ago so i don't believe that's the problem. I really think the problem is in the tune, which is a MADZtune.
Anyone else ever have this problem? Anyone got any suggestions?

Sounds like you have a sensor or solenoid that is sensitive to cold weather,Do you get a check engine light when this ocurs?

Your going to need to monitor the data stream then and see whats out of range contrary to popular beleif a sensor can be defective out of range and not set a code . Can be a pain to find to.

I'm gonna see if the boss will let me take home our scanner, Genysis OTC. What exactly do I need to look for in datastream? Go to each sensor and find the range it works in then check datastream? Hey I really apprieciate your quick response adn tech advice.

Well assuming you have a 94 car the code 81 is for 2-3 shift solenoid electrical , This means the connection to or the solenoid itself is and open or shorted Circuit, My best thought here would be the solenoid is open when cold and the open closes when warm or there may be and issue with the trans harness plug in the same way,
Now the code 83 dosent make sense its a REVERSE LOCKOUT solenoid for a manual transmission?

Heres what alldata says about it but as I said dosent apply to your car.

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The reverse lockout solenoid will be energized when the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) grounds CKT 1652, which will allow the transmission to be shifted into reverse. The PCM will enable the reverse lockout solenoid whenever vehicle speed is below 4 mph. When vehicle speed is above 5 mph, the PCM will de-energize the reverse lockout solenoid, which will prohibit the transmission from being shifted into reverse.

I would personally be the pink wire is fine as if the problem was there it would set code for all the solenoids, I would really look at the 1-2 shift solenoid first . Measure and see if its open when cold
