Yeah I know mine is small I cant imagine a 4400stall. I think I would and will upgrade sooner or later to a 3600+ but going from my 3000 to a 3600 doesnt seem like much so I may as well go big or go home. Hopfully my stock trans will last this year or I will be yanking it out reguardless

I have a Vig 3200 and 3.23's with a H/C setup. This thing seems like it needs alot of rpm (2500-3000) just to get going. I do have LTs' + ORY and Borla which do make it worse since it's loud. I am thinking of lowering my stall or going to 3.42 or 3.73. Any ideas what would be the best way to go? Hardly ever at the track, just want the best setup for occasional fun and cruising. Sorry if I hijacked. Thanks

3.23 --> 3.42 = waste of money
3.23 --> 3.73s = great from a roll, trickier to launch from a stop light. It will take about 200 rpm of looseness out of around town driving.

Put a bullet in your I-pipe and take the noise down. You'll find the current set-up is much more livable with a quieter exhaust.

When my ST3800 died, I had a local guy (who is awesome) "rebuild" it and restall it to about 4400rpms (I say "rebuild" because he could only reuse the cover), on the dyno it flashed to 4800, and from reading on here, seems to be what the PT4400 flashes to.
With my 3800, it was very tight, and honestly almost no one noticed there was a stall in it. I let a friend who had a 350z drive it, and he was suprised at the amount of low end tq it had, and this is unlocked and in 4th gear. My g/f would drive it occasionally and said she didn't notice anything about it (she would never go WOT though, lol)
Anyway, compared to my 3800, the 4400 is a lot looser, my tach reads a bit high (somewhere around 2-300rpms high), but I would say to maintain the same acceleration, it takes about another 500rpms. 2000rpm is like, grandma slow (you'll be holding up traffic), 2500 is enough to keep up with most traffic, and 3000rpms is enough to keep up with fast accelerating traffic/people, except for the people that are really trying. (again, my tach reads a bit high) I let one person drive it and he thought it felt awesome, though he drives a big turbo supra, so I'm not sure if he's used to higher rpms during general cruising. I usually drive in D, and it'll lock up at 25mph (stock tune), which nearly eliminates all of the drivability issues imo. I'd guess changing from 2.73's at the same time, it'll probably only be another 2-300rpm to accerate at the same rate as your old setup. It might feel exactly the same with 3.73's, but I wouldn't know for sure personally.
For what it's worth, 3.23's are basically the same as 3.42's. (in autos anyway) A friend of mine has 3.42's in his T/a with a 3800 stall, and it felt exactly the same as mine did with the 3800. 3.73's wouldn't effect you that much on the highway, maybe another 300rpms while cruising.
www.f-body.org/gears Select the 98 Fbody A4 option, input gear ratio, hit calculate, then change the ratio to 3.73 then calculate again, you can scroll down the chart and see the difference in rpm at different speeds. for example at ~70mph, you're doing 2200rpm with 3.42's. With 3.73's, you're doing 2400rpm. I guess you'd have to decide if that would bother you, I'm not really sure what impact that would have on gas mileage, but i'm sure it's not much over 3.42's.
As far as things like, the rain or snow, it's very easy to drive, much easier than stock for sure. Though when you go WOT, and it flashes, make sure it's pointed straight and the ground is dry, lol.
Sorry for the ginormous post, and hope at least some of it was helpful.

The main reason why I want to go with the 3.42s is to stay out of 4th since it is just a cruise gear. I use the gear calculator all the time and with the 3.42s, I'll still be in 3rd and just a bit over 145 since my cam has the car shifting at 6600. With the 3.73s, the car will have to go into 4th once I go beyond 135. I'm going to do the gear change first and see how it affects the car with the current stall then I'll make my decision from there to go higher.

Just for comparison sake on how the old setup used to be compared to what I have now. You can clearly see how the car is a slug out of the hole, also in the night vid, I wasn't the one that you hear spinning. Listen to when the car hits 3rd and I'm practically at the traps. The car got retuned to hit harder off the line but I haven't tested it out yet. Also the old setup vid was done at the end of November (winter) -1000 DA with a best of 111.7 mph and the 2 other vids were done in July (summer) +1900 DA with a best of 113.4 mph

Current setup 1.94 60' was the lowest I could get launching the same way as my old setup and no spinning.
