Is a shift kit a good idea?
Is a shift kit a good idea? Im planning on having a vig 3800 stall put in my 98 Z28 and am having a shop install it for me. Now this one shop thats doing the install said they dont like doing shift kits they recommend doing a LS1 Edit and just firming up the shift by adjusting the line pressure. But another shop by my house says its a good idea cause the higher stall converter lossens the shifts and the shift kit tightens them back up. what do you guys think?
Re: Is a shift kit a good idea? You're going to need your shift points and firmness changed because of the size of your stall. Besides you may pick up a few extra HP if they put your car on a dyno and tune your A/F ratio for you.

Re: Is a shift kit a good idea? The shop that told you the converter will loosen the shifts and the kit will help to tighten them back up is correct. Vig recommends a trans go shift kit with thier converters, I heard from someone. See my other post in this section for more info on shift kit with big converter.
