A batch of converters went out in the OCT-DEC 02 time frame with defective splines. They were recalled and replaced by Yank.

As a general problem, the torque management on the '01 and '02 cars is more severe than on the early years. If you plan on running a high stall, you'll want to delete it with LS1 Edit, Predator, or via a custom tune. This problem isn't just with Yank's but any high stall converter.

Yank has completely revised its line of lock-up clutches to address the finicky PCMs on the '01 and later models. The clutches are made from billet steel rather than stamped steel (like the old Yank clutches and the rest of their competitors) and the lining has been revised to dramatically cut down on clutch chatter (a common problem with '01-02s). The new Super Stock converters have all the latest revisions and are worth their premium over the competition in both performance and reliability.

If I plan on purchasing a blower should I upgrade from my PY3600E manufactured in August of 2002 to the new SS4000E?

Blower is going on top of below mods.

I would keep the Pro Yank 3600E. It's designed with power adders in mind and works well N/A and with a ton of boost.

I have a PT4200 in my 02 Z28. I'd recommend LS1 edit and just turn off torque management completely. There is also one trouble code you may want to turn off. Once I got the converter in my car, I started having some trans issues such as slow 1-2 shift, slow 3-2 downshift, slow converter lockup, slow converter unlock. The biggest of the problems was the 1-2 upshift problem. I ordered a transgo shift kit, installed, and it fixed every problem that I was having. Some guys say that you don't need a trans go, you can fix everything with tuning, but you cant.

With LS1 edit, I tried everything possible to fix that 1-2 shift problem, and It just would not go away. Also, as far as I know, there is no way to even adjust the converter lockup speed unless you change the pulse valve in the valve body. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that one.

Later,
Jordan

according to a HPP article interview of some engineers for companys like slp they said turning off torque management will gain you a tenth or two but is not worth the harm it causes on your tranny ect. also they said as long as you dont stall over 3400 then you wont need pcm moding but over 34 you throw a code cause it thinks tranny is slipping
