Default Considering a change from a Vig3200 to a PT4400

thanks first off for viewing. im curious to see if this is worthwhile or not for what my setup currently is and also for what i hope for it to be. i plan on putting a heads/cam package on by march-may and considering nitrous(this may/may not go well with this converter). i guess the big guys like Mike Hoffpauir, Trevor D, John(Raughammer),Terry Burger might fair a little better at answering this, but anyone feel free to chime in, its all very much appreciated. my car is a daily driven 02 ws6 with a transgo and vig3200, as well as about every other bolt on.
i would love to be able to cut some 60's lower than 1.6-1.7 for those times when i do go to the track, but then there are the other possible side effects.
1.) there's the issue of driveability. sometimes i make am hour and a half roadtrip on a weekend and so what would that be like? what rpm would i keep cruising? as far as "looseness" of a converter, i actually enjoy it being loose so i dont have to rest my foot on the brake at a light while driving in reasonably good traffic.
2.) how would this hinder mpg, not a big issue but if anyone did notice a difference how minute/drastic was it?
3.) anything else that i havent thought of or overlooked?

thanks again for your time and input.

I'll be making the swap from a ST3800 to a PT4400 here in around a week or so. I'll let you know. As long as it locks up down the freeway, I don't
see where it would be a problem. If mine runs a tad too hot, I'm going to put a fan on my tranny cooler for stop and go traffic.

I changed from the Vig3200 to a PT4000/4400. The performance gains are worth it if you do not mind driving a LOOSE converter.

xtc, a few years ago I ran a vig 3600 and switched to the yank tp4400. I picked up about 1.5 tenths and a mph at the time. I would expect to pick up a little more over the 3200 if you can hook. A well prepped track and some E/T Drags should make sure you do.

I havent checked gas mileage--I never do as a rule of thumb. Trevor D did a while back but I cannot remember his results.

As far as drivability is concerned, yes the convertor is loose! But the reason this is not a problem (IMO) for a daily driver is because of OD. Once the convertor locks up (about 35 mph in my case) you cannot tell its any different from stock.

I do drive around with fully closed borla. I think loud exhaust (like open cutout, loud mouth without cats, open borla) would make this convertor horrible for a daily driver. You would just hear the car slipping its *** off. But if your car is somewhat quiet like mine it is no problem at all and sounds cool.

With 4.10's I keep pace with traffic from a redlight with the convertor slipping at around 2700-3200 rpms. Of course I could make it slip more with more throttle but I try to drive somewhat conservatively . Also, less gear will make the convertor feel looser. So if you have 3.42's expect to see 3200+ slip when driving from a dead stop.

The key to these big convertors being streetable is the computer keeping the thing locked up. As long as it doesnt unlock for casual driving and passing it is as streetable as a stock convertor.

Also, make sure you put as big of a tranny cooler as you can on these 3600+ convertors.
