Default M6 to A4 swap question.

I am going from an M6 to a Rossler A4. I know I need to pull the harness, but what am I required to do for the PCM/programming? Is the Body Control Module going to come into play? Will the A4 cause problems as far as the VATS?

I know the laundry list of parts to swap over, I'm just not sure about the details to make the swap functional.

Thanks for your help, and please, no jeering at the swap. If I could drive an M6 worth a crap, I wouldn't even think about this.

Has no one done this swap before? There must be someone that has heard of a neighbor's cousin, that had an uncle that did this...

Allrighty, let me see if I can help you out here. Things that you will need that you probably already know. Radiator for A4 car, Lines, flywheel, crossmember, driveshaft, wiring harness (dependant upon which A4 your are going with), pcm reflashed with A4 programming. The reason I say you will need the wiring harness dependant upon which A4 you go with is because of the following. If you go with a setup like a 200r4, or 700r4 (the vacuum modulated ones) then you will not need the wiring harness, nor will you have to reflash the computer with the A4 program, but you will still need to get the conversion for your speedo. On the other hand if you are doing a swap with a 4l60e and are going to run it off the pcm the you will need the wiring harness to be able to hook into the tranny and then have to have the pcm reprogrammed with an A4 setup so that it can control you shift points, line pressure etc. I am not exactly sure as to what you are looking for so if you would like to email me with more questions then feel free. I will try to help the best that I can.

Geez for that much work, why not go with a Rossler TH350/400 and not worry about PCM voodoo. With an A3 you can run a transbrake, and a 2.75 first gear.
I gave serious consideration to swapping out my M6 for an A4. Even had a guy ready to drive from Chicago to my friends shop. Then I heard horror stories about spliced up harnesses...no thanks.

Liquidnutz: Ok, thanks for the advice. No radiator cooler required(auxilliary is SOP), no flywheel on an auto (it's a flexplate), driveshaft is identical dims (both Al after 99), M6 PCM just needs parms turned on (no "reflash" required), any trans other than 4L60E requires VSS convertor. Although everything you stated was wrong, I appreciate your advice.

Fast SS: The 350/400 swap required $3500 before it was functional, due to the rear suspension mounting, new shifter, trans build, convertor, reverse manual, trans brake, and the rest of the ancillary components... But, I don't have to tell you... Thanks, though!
